January 26, 2024 by Department of Classics

The Faculty of Arts and Science has awarded a Dean’s Research Excellence Award to Professor Rachel Barney in recognition of her profound impact on the study of ancient Greek philosophy, a subject in which she internationally regarded as a pre-eminent scholar. The award supports Professor Barney's wide-ranging research, which spans from the early sophists to the late Neoplatonists, with a focus on Plato.

Professor Carl Knappett, affiliate faculty in Classics and Walter Graham/Homer Thompson Chair in Aegean Prehistory in the Department of Art History, also received the award, in acknowledgement of and to further support his interdisciplinary studies of protohistoric societies of the Bronze Age east Mediterranean. Professor Knappett also serves as faculty in the Mediterranean Archaeology Collaborative Specialization program.

Congratulations to Professors Barney and Knappett on this well-deserved honour.
