The Department extends our warmest congratulations to Arts & Science postdoctoral fellow John Sigmier, who will be joining the Department of Art & Archaeology at Princeton University as Assistant Professor of Art and Archaeology! He will be joining the faculty on September 1, 2025.

From the announcement on Princeton's Art & Archaeology website:

"'John Sigmier will revitalize the department’s teaching of Roman art and archaeology, continuing its long and distinguished tradition in this vital field, while moving into new areas of research and academic inquiry,' said Department of Art & Archaeology Chair Professor Nathan Arrington.

"Most recently, Sigmier examined how patterns of knowledge-sharing across social networks impacted the development of theater architecture in the Roman Empire. Sigmier has worked at archaeological sites in Tunisia, Greece, Israel, Turkey, and Italy. He is working on a book on a recently discovered Roman gate at the ancient city of Sardis in western Turkey, where he has worked since 2011; and he has begun a study of the theater at the site of Falerii Novi in central Italy. He earned his Ph.D. in the Art and Archaeology of the Mediterranean World at the University of Pennsylvania in 2024."

Congratulations John!
