The Department of Classics is keen to promote the study of Ancient Greek and Latin by students from groups that are visibly under-represented in the field (e.g., on the basis of race, ethnicity or gender), and to help individuals overcome other obstacles to inclusion (e.g., on the basis of sexual identity or socio-economic status, including first-generation university students). We are offering bursaries to cover tuition for language courses ($700 per semester course). For those visiting from outside the Toronto area who plan to live in residence on campus, requests may be made for up to an additional $1,000 per semester. Please note that all bursaries are administered through the Awards Unit of the Office of the Faculty Registrar and are not disbursed until after the drop deadline in the relevant term.
In the first summer term (May—June), we offer LAT 101, LAT201, GRK 101, and GRK 201*.
In the second summer term (July—August), we offer LAT 102, LAT202, GRK 102, and GRK 202*.
(*Note that GRK201 and GRK202 will be offered in an online-synchronous delivery mode.)
If you are interested in applying for a bursary, please send by March 21, 2025 a cover letter as well as a copy of your university transcript (an unofficial copy is fine) to the Undergraduate Coordinator, Professor Kevin Wilkinson, at: undergrad.classics@utoronto.ca. In your cover letter please tell us what courses you plan to enrol in and why you are eager to take them. In addition, please include a few lines explaining your eligibility for this bursary and how it will help you to achieve your goals.
If you are coming from another university in North America or overseas, please see the following link for information about applying and enrolling in courses through Woodsworth College (the online process is straightforward but you will need a Letter of Permission from your own university registrar or study abroad office): https://wdw.utoronto.ca/visiting-students/apply.
Woodsworth College also has limited accommodation spaces for visiting students; please find information about that through the Woodsworth College website: https://wdw.utoronto.ca/residence/summer-housing.
For course schedules, when available, see the following link (under Faculty/Division, select Faculty of Arts and Science; under Session, select Summer 2025): https://ttb.utoronto.ca/.
If you have additional questions about our summer language courses, feel free to contact the Undergraduate Coordinator, Professor Kevin Wilkinson, at: undergrad.classics@utoronto.ca.
