Description

The JHI working group “Uncertain Worlds: Comparative Perspectives on Risk” is pleased to announce a lecture by Prof. Steven Klein (KCL) titled "Democracies in the Era of Systemic Risks". The event is scheduled to take place in person on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Sidney Smith 3130. For those unable to attend in person, we offer the option to join online. Please RSVP by April 5 to claudia.paparella@mail.utoronto.ca if you'd like to join virtually.

Abstract for the lecture:

Democracies today are faltering in the face of large-scale systemic risks, such as financial risk and climate change, which are giving rise to new forms of emergency and crisis governance. This lecture diagnoses our era of systemic risk and asks: how can the politics of systemic risk become democratic?
