Bio and Research
My interests in Classics are mostly related to the study of ancient Roman history, especially during the period of the Five Good Emperors. Within this period, I am quite interested in the processes of Roman colonization and acculturation, chiefly in regards to Roman Dacia partially because of its peculiar position as a primarily Latin speaking province in the overwhelmingly Greek East. This interest in colonization (or perhaps the more fraught terms of Romanization/Hellenization) also extends to the Hellenistic Far East, specifically in regards to the Indo-Greek and Greco-Bactrian kingdoms. Outside of the study of history, the development and divergence of the Latin vernacular from “elite” Latin and its subsequent evolution into the Romance languages is also something I find myself quite interested in.
