Bio and Research
Joseph is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Classics and a member of the Collaborative Program in Ancient and Medieval Philosophy.
Joseph is writing a dissertation on the trial of Socrates, establishing new connections between Plato’s account of the trial and Athenian public oratory. In view of these connections, he strives to rethink the relationship between Socratic philosophy and Athenian political culture. The result, he hopes, will be a modest contribution to the perennial conversation about the historical emergence of western philosophy and what in it might be of enduring value.
