Biography
Ben Akrigg has taught Greek history at the University of Toronto since 2006. Before coming to Toronto he was lecturer in Greek history in the Classics Department at King’s College London. He took his BA in Literae Humaniores at the University of Oxford, his MA in Archaeology at Birkbeck College London, and his PhD at the University of Cambridge.
His principal research interest is in the economic and social history of archaic and classical Greece. He is the author of Population and Economy in Classical Athens and the co-editor (with Professor Rob Tordoff of York University) of Slaves and Slavery in Ancient Greek Comic Drama. His current major project is on the relationship between environmental change and economic development in ancient Greece. He is currently also working with Professor Katherine Blouin on a Handbook of Classics and Postcolonial Theory for Routledge.
