Bio and Research
Christopher Lougheed comes to the University of Toronto having taught a wide range of Classics courses at the University of Alberta (where he completed his PhD), St. Mary’s University in Halifax, and at the University of Winnipeg. He received his BA from Queen’s University (Kingston, ON) and his MA from the Université de Montréal.
His research combines philology with Late Antique social and cultural history. He is particularly interested in the literary self-presentation of ancient authors in autobiographical works, especially edited letter collections, which became more common in the fourth-century CE. His current work focuses on the Latin letter collection of the late Roman senator Quintus Aurelius Symmachus in an empire-wide perspective.
