Bio and Research
Susan Bilynskyj Dunning has her PhD in Classics from the University of Toronto. Her work focuses on religious and cultural developments in the Roman world through the study of material and literary sources.
Her monograph, The Ludi Saeculares and the Saeculum, examines the development of the Saecular Games and their relationship to Roman conceptions of time from the Republic to late Empire. She is also investigating the history of non-elite associations with divinity in Plautus’s comedies, Latin inscriptions and graffiti, and funerary monuments of the Imperial period. Future research plans include a study of Roman and Greek hymns. At Toronto, she has taught courses in Roman and Greek religion, language, history, myth, and drama. She is promoting the use of inscriptions for undergraduate Latin and Greek instruction.
